FROM THE CD INLAY:
Welcome to my latest recording featuring the amazing residence instrument of John and Anne Fuhrmann, recorded April 2012 in Karrinyup, near Perth, Western Australia.
Although a fully digital organ, I must admit that I have yet to play a more realistic ‘virtual’ machine than this one, even the subtle delay in the sound reaching the console from the speakers is identical to the behaviour of a genuine theatre pipe organ.
The Karrinyup (Perth) VTPO organ uses digital samples developed by Australian organist Neil Jensen within a Hauptwerk platform and, at the time of recording, had 12 channels of sound. There is an augmented Rodgers Theatre Organ console with Artisan combination system controlling the sound. Organists have access to 15 general pistons and another 15 pistons per manual.
There are 33 ranks of the 35 sampled theatre organ voices available for use, including a choice of 3 tibias, 3 vox humanas and 4 strings with celestes
The sound system is located in a home basement 20ft high, 27ft long and 15ft wide, speaking through 3 sound chutes similar to those used for the Granada Tooting Wurlitzer in London, into a listening area with a peaked roof that is 42ft long and 15ft wide. The room volumes also provide natural reverberation.
I have chosen a selection of some of my most requested numbers from concerts all around the world. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the offering and look forward to meeting you at a concert in the near future!
Very Best Wishes, Chris Powell.
